| | | | | Riders’ guide for gears and accessories by Mike Watson | | | The craze of youth for the Motorcycling gears including leather jackets, leather vest, leather gloves and leather chap has been never ending. Here are the intrinsic details of some motorcycle gears that have gained immense popularity in the recent times.
Leather Jackets:
There are mainly two kinds of people who fall into such categories.
(1) Those who wear protection against crash.
(2) Those who wear such gears to make it their style statement.
Motorcycle jacket comes mainly in 1 piece or 2 pieces. If you have opted for the motorcycle jacket in order for the protection against the crash then, the leather used to make the jacket should be stronger, tougher and moderately flexible. Motorcycle Leather jackets and leather vest should be tested for impact abrasion, tear and cut resistance.
Two common styles of motorcycle leathers that are easily available in the market are:
(1) Tight fitting leather jackets based on racing leather.
(2) Loose fitting leather jackets for the people who are fond of style, often decorated with tassels and metal studs.
Modern motorcycle jackets have armors inside at some major impact region of body like hips, shoulders, elbows, back and knees. Now days, you may find some motorcycle leather jackets having an airbag system. At time of collision, it deploys and saves riders’ lower back, neck and torso.
Leather Chaps:
Motorcycle chaps are the coverings for the legs containing a belt and leggings. They are buckled on over a leather vest or leather trouser. Same as the other accessories, they are used for the time for protection at times for showiness also.
Leather Gloves:
Motorcycle gloves are usually made of leather. Gauntlets are used in leather gloves to protect rider’s wrist. Motorcycle gloves normally have pre curved in the finger sections and they are also having an additional armor inside the glove for the best protection. For the joints of the fingers, there may be additional protection of carbon panels or titanium inside the leather gloves.
Boots:
In the event of crash while riding, boots protect rider’s ankles and feet so the boots purchased should be strong, tough and moderately flexible. Rubber based boots provide a good grip on the pavement. The motorcycle boot should not have heels. But if they have heels, they must be wide and low enough to provide a stable base.
Helmet:
The main goal of the helmet is to protect rider’s head in the event of the crash or collision. Some helmets also have some additional protection for the face. In almost every country the helmet is compulsory for the motorcycle riders.
