| | | | | Four Tips to Improve Your Baseball Performance by Tony Johnson | | | Looking to improve your baseball performance? Here are some simple yet effective tips that you can bear in mind:
Get The Right Nutrition: The right nutrition can help you in more ways than one. Firstly it will improve your concentration and secondly it will keep you energetic for longer periods during the day which can be crucial during training hours. Remember that the right nutrition is not about stuffing your body with junk food throughout the day. Eating the wrong food can actually reduce your performance reducing your ability to concentrate and play for longer hours.
Start your day with a breakfast rich in fruits. Include a variety of fruits rich in water content for instance, peaches, berries, apples, mangoes, grapes, grapefruit and watermelons to name a few. You need not take anything else in the mornings apart from fruits. Eating fruits will not only increase the water content in your body, it will also help you mentally more active.
Throughout the day keep refilling yourself with healthy snacks. Bananas for example make a great snack and they are rich in carbohydrates. Another important tip is to keep drinking water at regular intervals especially if you are playing under hot sun.
Reduce your intake of salt and surgery products and make sure to keep away from junk/fast food. This kind of food is heavy on the stomach which can make you feel drained of energy as the stomach uses up all your energy to digest the junk food. Also keep away from vitamin and mineral supplements as they only do more harm than good.
Invest In Quality Equipment: Quality equipment does not mean that you need to spend a fortune. By careful research you can get yourself some really good quality stuff at a much lower rate. So they key here is to do your research. The internet is the best place to start. Start off with comparison shopping sites that also offer product reviews. Some good sites to checkout are nextag.com, bizrate.com, shopzilla.com, and smarter.com. You can also check shops selling exclusive closeout gear like closeoutathletics.com. It is always advisable to pay a visit to a sport goods shop and check out the product yourself before ordering it online. This especially holds true for goods like baseball bats. Here are some good tips you can bear in mind while buying bats.
Get Plenty Of Rest: If your body is well rested you will definitely play better. So cut down on the party hours and avoid taking alcohol before sleeping. Get quality sleep of at-least 8 hours. The best way to achieve this is to maintain a proper sleep routine. Make it a habit to sleep at around 10 in the night every night. Follow this for a few days and your body will automatically get tuned to sleep at that hour.
In addition to sleeping at the right time, it is also important to get up in the right manner. Firstly getting up too early using heavy alarms is not advisable. If the situation allows, try and sleep for as long as you feel like before waking up. Do not force yourself up. If the situation does not allow this, try a dual alarm system. Place two alarms one with a low intensity/volume and other with a slightly higher intensity/volume. Set the low intensity alarm to go 10 minutes before the high intensity one. Doing so will ensure that you do not force yourself awake when you are in deep sleep. The first alarm will wake your body up from deep sleep and the 2nd will help you get up feeling fresh as you did not force wake yourself from a deep sleep.
Short naps in the afternoon are good too, but keep it to within half or one hour at the max
Practice Hard: Practice makes perfect and this cannot be emphasized enough. Great players like Barry Bonds are known to swing the bat 500 to 1000 times in a day. Now that is a hard number to reach but you can get their eventually by setting practice goals. Set your goals by writing them down on a paper and keep track of them to ensure that you achieve them every day. A good strategy is to divide the swings throughout the day to ensure that you can practice swinging from both sides. You can take 25 cuts each batting from the left and right side in one practice session and continue this throughout the day in various spaced out sessions. Make sure not to overstrain yourself. This is where practice goals come into play. Set a plan which allows you to increase your swings on a slow and steady basis.
