| | | | | The Tragic And Terrific Touchdown by Sketch at rootzoo.com | | | On January 11, 1987, the Denver Broncos faced the Cleveland Browns in Municipal Stadium in the AFC Championship game. The Browns were favored because they were playing at home in one of the hardest stadiums to play in.
VS.
The 79,915 fans in Municipal Stadium didn't know that they were about to watch one of the greatest football games of all-time. That day, there were occasional snow flurries. The wind chill was 5 degrees. John Elway, who had injured his left ankle the previous week, lead the Denver Broncos down the field on the most famous drive in football history.
Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar had just thrown a 48-yard touchdown pass to Brian Brennan. That touchdown gave the Browns a 20-13 lead over the Broncos. It looked like the Browns would be heading to their very first Super Bowl. Then on Mark Moseley's next kickoff, Denver returner Ken Bell fumbled the football and fell on it at Denver's own 2 yard-line. It looked even better for the Browns as there was only 5:32 left on the game clock. Everyone on the Broncos was disappointed and thought that their season was pretty much over, except for John Elway. His teammates said that he made them believe that they could win that football game. Vance Johnson, a Denver wide receiver, said that he had never seen Elway so calm. He would lead them on the greatest scoring drives in football history. It was and is called "The Drive".

Denver kicker Rich Karlis than ties it with an extra point.
The Denver Broncos would then go on to win the game and then lose in the Super Bowl. After that, the Browns were never again the same. The Broncos thrived after that season. The Broncos have gotten worse ever since John Elway retired from them. The Browns are gradually improving each year, and look to soon be in the playoffs.
The Broncos would later changed their logo to what it is today. | | | | Article Source : Article-treasure.com | | Publication date : 08-16-2008 | | | | Article by Sketch at rootzoo.com | | | | Sketch originally published this article at rootzoo.com.
