Good guerrilla marketers are always looking for a way to get free advertising. Swap a favor here, a little networking there: in the offline world, free advertising isn’t easy, but it’s out there if you know where to look. Just as a good guerrilla marketer would scoff at the idea of paying for advertising offline, a good guerrilla will also scoff at paying for advertising online.
Everything We’ve Covered So Far is Free
All the topics covered so far – social media, email marketing, link building, producing great content, and blogging – are great ways to improve your search engine rankings. Better yet, all the marketing methods mentioned so far are free or close to it.
By and large, however, good marketing online requires time and know-how, but not money. You know the little maps dotted with relevant businesses that show up when you do a Google search? You can make sure your business is listed on that map, and you can also add photos, store details, coupons, and more. Google offers this service completely free of charge.
Then there’s Craig’s List. Be warned: don’t spam Craig’s List unless you want your account banned and local Craig’s List users to turn against you. However, if you use Craig’s List judiciously, you can increase traffic, attention to your business, and sales.
Your Three Choices
These are just a few of the ways you can find free advertising online. To increase the advertising you’re doing online, you can do one of three things:
1. Spend money on expensive banner ads and surprise yourself by how quickly you can run up a tab on Google’s AdWords.
