Traditionally in western counties students and companies have been paying in excess of USD $30 per hour for individual language lessons. Although now with the emergence of services such as skype lessons no longer have to take place face to face, but can instead take place online. Fluentfuture.com, a growing internet phenomenon, now offers a portal for students to be able to learn languages online from teachers based in emerging economies. Through the website it is now possible to learn Mandarin at a fraction of traditional costs. For instance members can learn mandarin, from native mandarin teachers, at prices starting at $2 per hour. Teachers set there own prices, students take lessons over skype and the pay teachers the directly.
