Perhaps you have only been using the automatic ones only to answer queries. That is good but you can streamline the responder so that it can tell the customer much more than just the usual greeting and a “will get back to you soon” note.

Answering queries has never been easier. Send everyone mails with the answers and they will get to know about your expertise in the subject. Ask people to submit various other queries they might have. Present them with a link to your trial product. Make it easy for them to get free downloads via your mail itself.
Always make sure that there is a link in the email, which will lead them to your website. Clearly state your contact information. Invite people to respond to your mail. Give them suggestions like “act now…” and “take advantage of …” In every email, invite other web masters to exchange links with you.
The possibilities through auto responders are endless. People are coming up with new and innovative steps to market their products. This way of responding via emails is cheap and effective. Exploit this venue to your advantage.
